On a chilly but sunny day in early October, Scouts from Troop 71 helped mulch the Cook Park Playground in Colonie, NY. The scouts were there for the Fall Camporee where several different troops in the area gathered together for a weekend of camping and fun activities. To thank the town for hosting the camporee, the scouts volunteered their time to improve the playground. The scouts brought their own rakes and shovels to spread out the mulch over the entire playground. Within 30 minutes, the job was done. A park staff member said, “It's a two week job for the town to do it.” He also said that thousands of children visit the playground every year. The mulch provides cushioning and keeps weeds out of the play area. The scouts’ hard work has provided a safer play area for the community.
