Teaching Cub Scouts How to Whittle

Scouts from Troop 75 and Troop 71 constructed this fire for the cub scouts

On Saturday, BSA Troop 71 scouts attended Pack 272's opening campfire. The scouts taught cubs how to whittle. Whittling is the method of carving an object out of wood in a series of steps, slicing off tiny pieces. The scouts taught the cubs about the Blood Circle, the Do Not Whittle Triangle, how to safely hand a knife to someone, and many other whittling techniques. They also helped build a beautiful campfire over which the cubs got to roast marshmallows for s'mores.

The cub scouts made boats and arrows using plastic knives to carve soap.
