Scouting for Food

Updated: Nov 23, 2019

This Veterans Day, scouts from Troop 71 and cubs from Pack 528 set off in the cold to place plastic bags on people's doors. Citizens were asked to place food in the bags for the local food drive and leave outside their door the following weekend. When the scouts returned the next Saturday, they split up and collected the bags from the neighboring houses. Once their cars were loaded, they proceeded to the Bethlehem town hall and unloaded the bags into the gym. Scouts and other volunteers whisked the bags from those bringing them inside. Expiration dates were checked and food was sorted into bins; the scouts swarmed like a school of hungry Piranhas. From there, volunteers stacked the food onto the shelves of the Bethlehem food pantry, and excess food went off into the regional food bank. Scouting for food is the primary source of food for the town food pantry. To find out more, visit the town of Bethlehem's website: https://www.townofbethlehem.org/264/Food-Meal-Programs.
